April, 1913 - The Highlanders move to the Polo Grounds, and become officially known as the New York Yankees

January 11, 1915 - Col. Jacob Ruppert and Col. Tillinghast Huston buy the New York Yankees for $460,000

January 3, 1920 - The Yankees buy the contract of Babe Ruth from the Boston Red Sox for $125,000 and a $350,000 load against the mortgage on Fenway Park

September, 1921 - The Yankees clinch their first American League Pennant

April 18, 1923 - Yankee Stadium opens with a 4-1 Yankee win over the Boston Red Sox

April 20, 1936 - The season opens with Yankee Stadium's right field expanded to three decks

January 25, 1945 - Dan Topping, Del Webb, and Larry McPhail purchase the Yankees for $2,800,000

May 28, 1946 - The first night game, a 2-1 loss to Washington, is played at Yankee Stadium

November 2, 1964 - CBS buys 80% of the Yankees for $11,200,000

August 8, 1972 - The Yankees sign a 30-year lease to play at a remodeled Yankee Stadium, scheduled to be completed by 1976

January 3, 1973 - A limited partnership, with George M. Steinbrenner III as the managing general partner, purchases the Yankees

April 6, 1974 - The Yankees begin their first of two seasons playing at the Met's Shea Stadium while Yankee Stadium is renovated

April 15, 1976 - The remodeled Yankee Stadium reopens, with a 11-4 win over the Minnesota Twins

April 13, 1998 - Hours before they are scheduled to play the Anaheim Angels, a support beam in Yankee Stadium falls and crushes a seat. They would play their next series against Detroit at Shea Stadium
