History
May 1, 1883 - The New York Gothams play their first game ever, at the first Polo Grounds
1888 - The New York Giants capture their first NL pennant
1889 - The Giants are forced by the city to move; they move into the second Polo Grounds on 155th Street and Eighth Avenue
1890 - The Giants merge with the Players League team, and move into the Player's League's larger stadium
1905 - The Giants play in their first World Series, beating the Philadelphia Athletics for their first World Series Championship
April 14, 1911 - A fire burns down the Polo Grounds, and the Giants are forced to play in the Highlander's Hilltop Park until June
June 28, 1911 - The Giants play their first game in Polo Grounds IV, a 3-0 win over the Boston Braves
1923 - The Polo Grounds is expanded, with more seats added to fully enclose the stadium
October 3, 1951 - Bobby Thomson hits (link)"the shot heard 'round the world" to propel the Giants to their sixteenth National League Pennant
October 2, 1954 - The Giants sweep the Indians in the World Series to win their fifth and final World Championship in New York
August 9, 1957 - Horace Stoneham announces that the Giants will be moving to San Francisco following the 1957 season.
September 29, 1957 - The Giants play their final game at the Polo Grounds before moving across the country
