BROOKLYN DODGERS

History
1883 - The Brooklyn team (then a member of the American Association) moves into Washington Park
1889 - Washington Park burns down, and is rebuilt on the same site
1890 - The Brooklyn Bridegrooms join the National League, and quickly win their first pennant
1897 - The Superbas (as they are now called) move into a new Washington Park, across the street from the original one
1913 - Ebbets Field opens with a win over the Philadelphia Phillies
1916 - The Dodgers advance to the World Series for the first time, but are defeated by the Boston Red Sox
1920 - The Dodgers lose the World Series again, and won't return to it for another two decades
1938 - As part of a major renovation to Ebbets Field, lights are installed. In the fist night game in the parks history, Johnny Vander Meer of Cincinnati no-hits the Dodgers for his second consecutive no-hitter
1941 - The Dodgers win their first pennant in 21 years, and are defeated in the World Series by their cross-town rivals, the New York Yankees
1947 - Jackie Robinson breaks the color line when he suits up for the Dodgers, becoming the first black player in the Major Leagues. The Dodgers win the pennant, but lose the World Series once again to the Yankees
October 3, 1951 - The Dodgers are defeated in a three game playoff for the National League Pennant by the New York Giants when Bobby Thompson launched his "shot heard 'round the world."
October 4, 1955 - It took them five tries, but the Dodgers finally beat the Yankees, and for the first and only time, the Brooklyn Dodgers are World Champions
October 8, 1956 - The Dodgers are back to old form, once again being victimized by the Yankees, this time being the victims of Don Larsen's perfect game, and another Yankee Championship
September 24, 1957 - The Dodgers play their last game in Brooklyn
